Plzeň commemorated the fallen on náměstí Míru
"With humility and gratitude, we honored the memory of all those who gave their lives in war conflicts at the monument to fighters and victims of the world wars, so that we could live in freedom and peace. Today we are in free Pilsen, a city that has witnessed difficult times in the past. Therefore, every year at the beginning of May, we commemorate the events of major war conflicts. We remind ourselves that freedom and democracy are not taken for granted. The least we can do is to pay silent tribute to the victims of the resistance and the fallen," said Councilor Eliška Bartáková in her speech today at a memorial service in which the city of Pilsen commemorated the memory of fallen soldiers.
Flowers were laid at three memorials located on Náměstí Míru. The largest of them, standing in the middle of the square in front of the Czech Radio, is dedicated to the victims of the First and Second World Wars, another commemorates the airmen who fell in World War II, and the third commemorates the Pilsen residents who fell in the May Uprising in 1945.
The memorial service on náměstí Míru is an annual part of the Liberation Festival and is also attended by American and Belgian veterans.
