Gideon Kantor honored the memory of the liberators at a miniature of the famous monument Thank you, America!
The commemorative acts for the liberation of Pilsen by the American army continued in the intimate atmosphere of Horníček Garden behind the building of the office of the third city district. This year's meeting was quite exceptional thanks to the presence of a special guest, the 101-year-old American veteran Gideon Kantor, who visited the memorial accompanied by the families of his comrades. Together with the district leadership and the Pilsen city councilors, Eliška Bartáková and Vlastimil Gola, they commemorated the heroism of the freedom fighters, but also the anniversary of the unveiling of the unique mini-memorial here, which is a faithful copy of the monument Thank you, America! from American Avenue. This small monument carries a piece of real history, as it was built in 2018 from fragments of the original pylons that had to be removed from the main Pilsen avenue due to cracks. The miniature now dignifies the garden space next to the memorial tree, which was planted here during a joint meeting with veterans in 2014. By laying flowers, the participants in the memorial service honored the memory of the liberators and confirmed the deep bond that has existed between Pilsen and American veterans for decades.
