A new memorial plaque in Lhota commemorates four American airmen
In Lhota, there was still no permanent memorial to the American airmen who died there. The plan to purchase a separate monument, the model of which was created by the academic painter and sculptor Jaroslav Šindelář, failed to be implemented. In the end, the people of Lhota opted to replace the memorial plaque on the existing monument to the local victims of war. “We had a new plaque made that, in addition to our four local heroes and victims of World War II, also commemorates the four American airmen who lost their lives in the wreckage of a bomber in Lhota on April 25, 1945,” says Miroslav Petr. The ceremonial unveiling of the new memorial plaque on the monument to the victims of World War II in Lhota took place on Sunday, April 27.
