The Run for the Memory of the Nation honored war veterans

The traditional Run for the Memory of the Nation, which, under the banner of the Post Bellum organization, combined the spirit of sport with respect for history, included the morning program of the Liberation Festival in the park behind the Plaza Plzeň shopping center. The area became the start and finish for runners of all generations, who supported the documentation of the stories of our witnesses with their participation. While the main timed five- and ten-kilometer races took participants to the cycle paths in the Mže River valley and around the Kalikovský mill, the greatest attention was focused directly on the center of events among the military historical camps. The strongest moment of the whole morning was the symbolic one-kilometer family run, which started at 12:30 p.m. This untimed route was exceptional primarily for its atmosphere, because the runners stood at the starting line together with the families of war veterans. The participants thus expressed symbolic gratitude to those who contributed to our freedom right among the period equipment and historical camps. The route along the paved paths of the park offered unique scenery that athletes will not experience anywhere else in the country. In addition to the family run, the park also came alive from early morning with children's races of 150 and 300 meters, in which the youngest athletes under the age of twelve participated. The entire sports morning, which became one of the key parts of this year's liberation celebrations, concluded with the ceremonial announcement of the results at one o'clock in the afternoon.
