The Bailey Bridge was built by the Belgians in the Plaza park
An authentic Bailey Bridge was built in Pilsen in the park behind the Plaza by members of the Belgian 300th Engineer Combat Battalion Reconstitution asbl. They traveled several hundred kilometers to demonstrate the art of American combat engineers during the Freedom Festival. Each time they build it, they pay tribute to the brave men and women who served during World War II. It offers a true experience of military history and presents the military engineering of the time. Bailey Bridge is a type of prefabricated temporary bridge designed in 1940 by British engineer Donald Coleman Bailey. The bridge was intended to serve as a quick replacement for destroyed bridges during the war and to enable the movement of Allied troops.
