José Schindfessel, member of the Belgian 17th Rifle Battalion, veteran, hero and liberator of the city of Pilsen, passed away 6 years ago.

He was an active participant in the Belgian resistance (Secret Army, A.S.) joining the US Army after the Battle of the Bulge with the Belgian 17th Rifle Battalion. José was with the first troops to cross the Rhine on the pontoon bridge at Remagen participating in the liberation of the Weissenfels concentration camp and the city of Pilsen.

After the war, he worked as a teacher, director of a psycho-medical-social center in Liège, continued his studies and became a recognized psychologist, psychotherapist and psychoanalyst.
