Pilsen will offer free public transport during the Liberation Festival weekend, free P+R parking will also be available

Visitors to the Liberation Festival in Pilsen will be able to use free public transport and free P+R parking during the upcoming weekend, i.e. on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 May. Tens of thousands of people are expected to come to the West Bohemian capital to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the city by the American army. The aim of the free public transport in zone 001 (within the city) and free parking is to make it easier for people to move around the city and eliminate the number of cars in the city centre. Transportation measures are part of the celebration. For an overview of the measures, go to www.slavnostisvobody.cz, and for public transportation info, go to www.pmdp.cz.

"The celebration of the 80th anniversary of the liberation by the American army will be extraordinary in several ways, and this brings with it changes within public transport. We want people to enjoy them, so we've taken an approach along the lines of the slogan: We celebrate freedom, we ride for free," said Roman Zarzycký, Mayor of Pilsen.

"Many guests from other places will surely head to the city for the anniversary celebrations, so it certainly makes sense to allow as many people as possible to park conveniently on the outskirts and move around Pilsen by public transport. And if Pilsen residents also leave their cars at home, it will only be good for the comfort of the city," said Aleš Tolar, Deputy Mayor for Transport and Environment.

"On the weekend of 3 and 4 May, in addition to free transport, there will also be increased traffic on all tram lines and on trolleybus line 16," said Jiří Ptáček, PMDP general director. The timetables for the weekend are available on the website jizdnirady.pmdp.cz or in the My PMDP mobile app. At the same time, a special bus line will be dispatched on Friday, 2 May and Saturday, 3 May on the route Slovany - Poliklinika Slovany - Nádraží Slovany - Lobzy, shooting range and back, in connection with the presentation of the Czech Army and the U.S. Army at the Dukla Plzeň Lobzy shooting stadium. It will be open on Friday from approximately 12:00 to 18:00 and on Saturday 3 May from approximately 9:00 to 18:00.

The Liberation celebrations bring with them significant transport and safety measures, including not only the strengthening of connections, but also, for example, parking restrictions in the city centre, the relocation of some bus stops, the closure of traffic on Klatovská Street in connection with the Freedom Convoy on Sunday 4 May and restrictions in connection with the main commemorative act at Thanks, America! on Tuesday 6 May.
