Liberation festival continues today with Czech Radio Plzeň

No Czechoslovak radio station began broadcasting at the end of World War II in such a dramatic way as Pilsen...

That is why Czech Radio Pilsen commemorates it today, on its 80th anniversary, not only from Obcizna, a place at the confluence of the Radbuza and Mže rivers, but also with a live broadcast that was broadcast from this very place in 1945. At exactly 12:05 p.m., the opening words of Dr. Karel Šindler, later the first director of Czech Radio Pilsen, were heard from here: “Pilsen speaks, free Pilsen speaks.” The American soldiers at Obcizna were represented by the Military History Club of the 4th Armored Division Pilsen.

In the afternoon, the radio transmission truck will move to Republic Square in Pilsen, to the festive events of the Freedom Festival, where the Melody Makers will perform from 4 p.m., faithful to the period interpretation, from costumes and hairstyles to the overall direction of the performance.

There will be a surprise in the form of a performance of a sound carrier specially produced for the 80th anniversary. Then, from 6:30 p.m., the Gustav Brom Radio Big Band will play its tunes, whose concerts have featured the biggest stars of jazz and pop. They invited singer Dan Bárta as a guest for the concert in Pilsen.
