American war veteran Harry Humason arrived in Pilsen yesterday

Ninety-nine-year-old American war veteran Harry Humason flew to Pilsen to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.

Harry Humason served in the 5th Infantry Division of General Patton's 3rd Army. With his unit he participated in the liberation of southern Bohemia, specifically the area of the town of Volary in the Prachatice region. He arrived in Pilsen late yesterday evening. In the following days he will take part in the Freedom Festival, visit the battlefields in south-west Bohemia and on 8 May he will take part in the commemorative events in Prague. He will then move on to Frankfurt, Germany, which he also helped liberate.

At 99 years old, Harry Humason has a blog which is a presentation of some of the thoughts and ideas he has been thinking about recently and over many years. He started it to share these ideas with others and to encourage them to think about the changes that are necessary to create a functioning government, improve life and protect the planet.

Harry Humason was tracked down in the United States by historian Jiri Klůc, who is helping to organize the trip. The historian discovered his story last year. He has been searching for war veterans for a long time, regularly travelling to the United States and other countries to record the stories of the last survivors of World War II.
